The European Microscopy Congress is held every four years, and it was last hosted by the RMS in 1988 in York.  The European Microscopy Congress in September 2012 (emc2012) will incorporate MICROSCIENCE 2012. The European Microscopy Society (EMS) is an umbrella society for European microscopy societies. The RMS is the largest individual society of the EMS.
